Recherches :

Murielle LeGresley mène des études, sur le terrain et en laboratoire, sur le phytoplancton marin, plus particulièrement le phytoplancton nocif à l’origine des marées rouges, des effets dommageables, de l’intoxication paralysante, de l’intoxication diarrhéique et de l’intoxication à l’acide domoïque, en relation avec les objectifs en matière de mollusques et de poissons. Elle analyse des échantillons d’eau afin de connaître la composition du phytoplancton et tient à jour la base de données sur le phytoplancton dans la région des Îles-de-Fundy. Elle se penche également sur les tuniciers allogènes du sud-ouest du Nouveau-Brunswick dans le cadre du projet sur les espèces aquatiques envahissantes.

Voici quelques faits saillants de sa carrière de chercheuse :

• Elle exécute le programme de surveillance du phytoplancton actuellement en cours dans la baie de Fundy, en mettant l’accent sur les espèces d’algues nuisibles qui prolifèrent, notamment Alexandrium fundyense et Pseudo-nitzschia spp.
• Elle a participé aux études du seuil en laboratoire qui exposaient des saumoneaux à des algues toxiques et nocives pour en déterminer la létalité.
• En 1998, elle a pris part à la formation de la COI sur la taxinomie et la biologie des microalgues marines nocives.
• En 2001, elle a participé à l’atelier de formation avancée de la COI sur les microalgues nocives.
• En 2005, elle s’est investie dans l’atelier du CIEM et de la COI sur les nouvelles techniques et les techniques classiques de détermination de l’abondance et du biovolume des efflorescences algales nuisibles.
