Celebrating 20 years of the Musquash Estuary Marine Protected Area

In December 2026, the Musquash Estuary celebrates its 20th anniversary as an Oceans Act Marine Protected Area (MPA).

The Musquash Estuary MPA is the largest ecologically intact estuary in the Bay of Fundy, home to expansive salt marshes and a rich diversity of fish, mammals, birds, invertebrates, and marine plants that support both the ecosystem and local fisheries. Fisheries and Oceans Canada designated this area as an MPA in 2006, and works with Indigenous groups, conservation organizations, governments, industry, and the local community to safeguard water quality, habitats, biodiversity, and the productivity of native species.

Join us and our partner organizations in the celebration! Stay tuned to learn about a series of public events and activities throughout 2026 to mark this milestone.
